Spicy for a Cause: the 2014 CCI Chili Cook-off

The faculty, staff and students in the College of Communication and Information got spicy for a good cause. Each year, FSU runs a United Way of Big Bend Campaign that started September 30th and will conclude December 16th. This annual goal is accomplished through direct giving, payroll deductions, fundraisers, and the new “Spare Change” effort.

The goal for 2014 is $9,300, which was completed and surpassed on November 3rd. The Chili Cook-Off offered endless chili, a drink and dessert for $6. Forty attendants enjoyed plenty of creative chili, including Sweet Dumpling Pork Chili, White Chicken Chili, Seitan’s Rage Veggie Chili, and many more.

The 2014 winners:

  • First Place: Richard Garnett
  • Second Place: Sandy Beard
  • Third Place: Dean Larry Dennis

The event raised $366 towards the United Way campaign and was enjoyed by all who attended. Though the goal has been reached, campaign chair Shonda Sampson reminds CCI there are still prizes available. The grand prize is a reserved parking space on campus for a year, which will be drawn and announced at the close of the campaign.
