Responsibilities

  • A System DBA focuses in technical rather than business issues, primarily in the systems administration area. Typical tasks center in the physical installation and performance of the Database Management System (DBMS) software.
  • Setting and tuning DBMS system parameters to optimize the overall DBMS performance and minimize DBMS overhead.
  • Installing new DBMS instances as needed by the customer; upgrading existing DBMS instances to new versions as they become available from the vendor; applying maintenance fixes supplied by the DBMS vendor – all in accordance with NWRDC established procedures.
  • Interfacing with any other technologies required by the database applications, including third party DBA tools.
  • Tuning the operating system, network and transaction processors to work with the DBMS in a way that optimizes overall systems performance.
  • Enabling the DBMS to work with storage devices and storage management software as efficiently as practical.
  • Enabling, testing and verifying DBMS backup as well as restore operations utilizing the current NWRDC Backup as a Service infrastructure.

Qualifications

Do you have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years’ experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years’ of experience related to the duties of this position?
(Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years)
Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the network and data field.
Experience utilizing problem solving and technical skills.
Experience documenting existing and new processes.
Ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical users.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
Schedule
If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.
Criminal History Background Ck
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting.

Pay Plan
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
