SCSD Student Tatiana Perez Brings “Let it Go” to Life for Hearing Impaired

SCSD Student, Tatiana Nicole Perez is a motivated student, using what she learns in the classroom to change the lives of those around her.

“I was motivated to study to become speech pathologist because I love to help others, and I had a family member that underwent speech therapy,” said Tatiana. “I love to see the improvement right before my eyes.”

Tatiana studies disorders in human communication. Complications range from impairments in hearing and speech to swallowing and language processes. It is estimated that 1 in 6 individuals will suffer from a communication impairment at least once during their lives—Tatiana is eager to treat these patients. During her time at FSU she also became fluent in sign language, her third language. Tatiana has some schooling left, but she has already begun making a difference.

“Learning American Sign Language at Florida State is one of my biggest personal accomplishments. I love being able to communicate with a whole different culture,” shared Tatiana.Screenshot 2014-10-15 15.30.46

In the video, Tatiana elegantly signs the whole song with an enthusiasm, not foreign to her family and friends who commented on the video.

“You are so wonderful and will make a difference in so many people’s lives! You make me absolutely so proud!” said a commenter.

In ten years Tatiana hopes to have earned her doctoral degree and be working as a Speech Pathologist in a school or clinic.
