Communications & Marketing Internship

REPORTS TO:                     President & CEO

STATUS:        Intern (Unpaid)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 The Communications & Marketing Intern will work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend’s administrative staff to identify and create opportunities to build public awareness of Club services, programs, activities and events to include fundraising events. Adapt and create messages and vehicles for promoting upcoming events, and programs to the public and Club members, including newsletters, public service announcements, flyers and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. Develop and maintain the website to ensure that information is up to date and accurate. Evaluate success of strategies, materials and media efforts and modify as necessary. Work closely with the program and administrative staff.

 

SKILLS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Assist with establishing and maintaining procedures and formats for marketing and public relations materials and activities.
  • Provide input and guidance related to marketing and public relations budget including both revenues and expenses.
  • Assist with ensuring that vendors provide cost effective delivery of products and services in a timely manner.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of best practices to market Club programs, activities and events throughout the community.
  • Demonstrate skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with diverse population of members, community partners, board members, staff, donors, supporters and parents.
  • Assist with preparing various reports and program summaries as needed.
  • Assist with the creation of an Annual Report.
  • Assist with the development of a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist with ensuring the design and development of public relations documents/information for use in the promotion of fund-raising and education of the public, including press releases. Assist with ensuring the development and distribution of marketing documents and/or materials.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain oral and written contact with the Chief Professional Officer, Board of Directors, staff peers, and volunteers for the purpose of exchanging information, to provide progress reports as directed.

External: Maintain oral and written contact with other agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations, and the media for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas as directed.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

 

  • Knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of use of various social media platforms.
  • Must be creative.
