Description

The Tallahassee Police Department is looking for a qualified intern to assist in the Public Information Office. The Public Information Office produces press releases and social media posts for the public’s consumption.  TPD is seeking an intern who can participate in various stages of video, print and online marketing for the department.  They will work under the supervision of the PIO and will be involved with all aspects of the day to day business of the office at the Tallahassee Police Department.

This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, be self-motivated and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of public relations in a governmental agency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation of signage, e-mail campaigns, on line promotion, etc.
  • Research best practices regarding the use of FaceBook, Twitter etc.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of crime prevention videos
  • Perform analysis of marketing data
  • Seek and analyze other law enforcement agencies marketing materials both on and offline
  • Prepare presentations
  • Respond to citizen email questions
  • Provide support to social media efforts
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at public events
  • Photograph/interview on-duty police officers interacting in the community
  • Requirements

The Tallahassee Police Department is looking for an undergraduate student who is currently enrolled in the school of Communications or comparable. This person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with extensive knowledge of Web and social media. PowerPoint, Word and I-Movie experience is a bonus, and will be considered when choosing the best applicant for this internship position.

  • This is a non-paid internship
  • Own transportation for most work is required
  • 15-20 hours per week including some weekend/after-hours work
  • An I-Pad for work purposes will be provided for use by intern
  • Access to an I-Phone for work purposes
  • Pass/Fail recommendation at conclusion provided to school Intern Coordinator.
  • Must pass a background check
