Responsibilities
This position is responsible for supporting the College of Medicine Compliance Officer in regards to data security and strategic management. This position acts as the College’s HIPAA Security Officer (SO) and FSU’s designated Information Security Manager (ISM).Responsible for research, development, implementation, testing and reviewing areas of information security in order to protect information and prevent unauthorized access for the FSU College of Medicine.

Information officers inform users about security measures, explain potential threats, implement security measures and conduct employee security awareness training. Helps coordinate the development of the College’s information technology strategic risk management program. Assists with development, implementation, and maintenance of organizational information security policies and procedures in coordination with appropriate administrative or executive offices. Communicates risk mitigation and security strategies to upper levels of management. Assists with development of collaborative approaches and partnerships in managing information security resources and initiatives across campus.As the HIPAA Security Officer this position conducts enterprise wide and business unit information risk and security assessments and manages related monitoring activities required to coordinate the College’s compliance and operation assessment functions. Acts as subject matter expert, and recommends and implements corrective measures to technical challenges that may threaten compliance with Federal and State Rules and Regulations concerning information security standards. Assists business units as necessary in the data discovery process.Provides specialized technical expertise and consultation with data owners and custodians to identify and implement robust risk management operating procedures and to assist in ongoing risk mitigation initiatives and procedures. Maintains a standard of excellence in the risk and security evaluation process through gap analysis, design assessment, and ongoing critique of information technology systems supporting the mission of the College with regard to IT security risk exposure.Provides risk and security management outreach and support to all College business units. Regularly conveys knowledge and standard updates to information security operation units for appropriate application. Monitors advancements in information security technologies to ensure college IT adaptation and compliance. Seeks continuous feedback from campus business units.Assists in review of campus IT contracts/agreements that may include sharing of information classified as Protected and Private with outside entities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience. (Note: higher education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Experience conveying technical information to technical and non-technical users.
Experience prioritizing, organizing and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Experience documenting existing and new processes.
Experience gathering, interpreting, reporting, and/or editing information.
Experience with applicable computer applications and basic computer functions to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or comparable software.
Experience with practices and procedures of computer support.
Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Preferred
Critical thinker, with strong analytical skills.
Experience implementing NIST security controls.
CISSP or other related technology governance certifications is a plus.
Health care IT experience is preferred.
Knowledge of laws and standards relevant to higher education and the SO position such as HIPAA , PCI, and FERPA.
Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
Experience evaluating process effectiveness and developing change or alternatives.
