The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State University, is one of the largest museum/university centers in the nation.  Located on 66-acres of Sarasota bay front property, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d’Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museum; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking Sarasota Bay.  An Education Building houses our library, conservation laboratory, classrooms, and staff offices. The Ringling serves over 400,000 guests annually.

Responsibilities

The Public Relations Manager works under the direct supervision of the Communications & Marketing Director  and will play a key role within the Communications & Marketing Department of The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art (The Ringling). This position is primarily responsible for outreach to the local and regional media to build brand awareness and secure comprehensive press coverage.

The Public Relations Manager will create content and messages in collaboration with department stakeholders and the Communications & Marketing Director that support The Ringling*s value proposition and distinctive positioning. The candidate should be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and be detail-oriented, organized, creative and motivated to meet stakeholder needs on a timely basis.

The candidate must be a talented and versatile writer with experience in working with the media, have an outgoing personality and a can-do attitude. Knowledge of the visual and performing arts is preferred.

Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to the following:

Create news releases, media alerts, and overall press kit materials for The Ringling.

Pitch stories to the local and regional press to achieve the highest visibility in print, broadcast, and digital media outlets.

Cultivate relationships with the media and build/maintain media distribution lists.

Respond to media inquiries for interviews, images, photos, and videos. Arrange press conferences and lead tours of The Ringling for visiting media.

Assist in the development of positioning statements, key messages, and responses to public inquiries.

Manage social media program and write content for The Ringling*s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Serve as a back-up for website content development and The Ringling*s blog.

Assist with copy writing and planning for radio, television, digital and print advertising.

Manage Speakers Bureau Program. Plan and execute a comprehensive Speakers Bureau Program in line with The Ringling*s objectives. Contact organizations to schedule speaking engagements. Conceptualize and develop standard speaker presentation.

Assist with preparation of directory listings and calendar entries when needed.
Attend Ringling events to escort media and assist with any inquiries.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related area field and two years of experience related to the responsibilities of this position.

(Note: higher level of education in a related filed may substitute for experience at the comparable rate.)

Proven track record in designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and regional level.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Solid experience in developing and executing social media programs, including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Acute sense of judgment, tact and diplomacy.

Excellent planning and organization skills and attention to detail.

Public speaking skills and a valid State of Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain.

Other Information

Writing samples will be required from candidates selected for in-person interviews.

Anticipated Salary Range

Low $40,000’s/year + Florida state benefits available

Schedule

Typical schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Incumbent will occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of The Ringling.
