Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES – The Web Development Specialist provides creative and technical web development services for the Web Services Department.  The department is committed to the idea that the interaction people have with systems, websites and communication materials be based on common sense, clarity and compelling design.

Web Development Specialists provide general website building, design and maintenance services for a network of over 150 websites. Specialists will use both industry standard and proprietary development tools and technologies. They are responsible for the quality and timely delivery of products and services of the department. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and good communication skills are required. Individuals that are self-starting and need little direction are well suited to this position. In addition, they are routinely involved in special projects where they are called upon to find creative, web-based solutions for clients and the company.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Work closely with departmental staff and management to develop website  solutions that get business results
  • Develop web-based, features, widgets, interactive content, using industry standard tools and technologies
  • Organize website content logically
  • Identifies and designs new/creative web features & functionality
  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work generally falls into three categories:
Web Development:
Specialists are responsible for implementing hospital, clinical and physician and corporate web site designs, templates and features. They support the company’s network of healthcare websites by using the company’s proprietary tools along with industry standard tools and technologies in order to deliver custom designed websites based on customer requirements and company standards. Development includes site look and feel, site navigation, and interactive elements. Specialists contribute to the design group’s efforts to enhance the appeal of the organization’s online offerings and should be adept at applying web technology that will deliver business results. Implementing & following Search Engine Optimization (SEO) standards.
The Web Development Specialist must be able to code websites using HTML, DHTML, Java Script, JQuery, CSS, Velocity, XML/XSL, Flash and other common web languages. Background with PHP, ASP, SQL, is beneficial. Specialists will also maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing web applications and must be familiar with browser compatibility testing. Some departmental data base administration and development of database driven intranet websites may be required.
  
User Interface Design & Support:
Application prototypes and interactive web demos are also produced under the direction and guidance of department management. The Web Development Specialist should be able to work with limited supervision, understand the target audience and develop an appropriate user interface/solution. Additionally they will need to be able to interpret user interface workflow and produce prototypes that are designed within pre-existing product line design guidelines. Troubleshooting – determining cause of malfunctioning site features and either implementing a solution or coordinating other resource to implement a solution
Graphic Design & Multi Media Support:
Assist with design and layout of websites. Uses industry standard desktop publishing tools to process graphics for the web. Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, CS3 or similar page layout program is required. Competency or background in multimedia production and development is also applicable. Macromedia Flash, Adobe Premier and general audio video production skills are helpful as the Web Development Specialist may be responsible for implementing solutions for delivery of multimedia on the web.
Qualifications
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Adobe Graphics Design Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat
  • Strong working knowledge of core web scripting languages including HTML, Java Script, JQuery, XML/XSL, CSS, Velocity. Background/familiar with ASP, SQL, PHP is applicable.
  • Familiarity with dotCMS java based content management system is a strong plus
  • Familiarity or competence with various website design tools as; Dreamweaver, Visual Studio
  • Familiarity or competence with Multimedia design software; Adobe Premier, Flash/Shockwave, iPIX
  • MS Office
  • Form building with HTML, JavaScript, and Velocity
  • Strong working knowledge of cross-browser compatibility – how to determine compatibility and how to correct issues.
  • Audio and Video processing for use on web
  • Some client and server-side scripting
  • Knowledge of  Search Engine Optimization (SEO) standards
  • Hand coding of HTML to W3C and HTML Strict standards.

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical Training
  • College Graduate Preferred
  • Equivalent work experience may substitute degree requirement.
EXPERIENCE
  • 1 – 3 years relevant work experience
