Internship — Penn Dental Library (Philadelphia, PA)

AVAILABILITY: one position available to begin June 2014

SALARY: $15.00/hour.

HOURS: 20 hours per week; weekdays within 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM time period.

DESCRIPTION:
The Dental Library provides resources and information services to the faculty, staff, and students of the Penn Dental School, as well as to alumni, and the general public. The staff consists of the head librarian; a liaison librarian; two full-time support staff; and several student workers, both dental students and undergraduates. This internship is based at the Dental Library, but also offers the opportunity to take part in the Penn Library Chat services.

DUTIES:
For a self-motivated, service-oriented individual this internship offers an opportunity to gain broad library experience in a small health sciences library, particularly in the following areas:

  • Reference work for students, faculty, staff, and for the public.
  • Working with the ILS (integrated library system) Voyager, including Circulation and Reserves.
  • Teaching and training activities.
  • Camtasia video production.
  • Weeding, shifting, binding preparation.
  • Attendance at monthly intern meetings
  • Special projects as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a current student in an ALA accredited Library/Information Science graduate program. Able to learn quickly, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent customer service skills are required, along with good attention to detail. A special interest in teaching and/or production of video training tutorials is a plus. Strong computer skills are required.
