Internship — Ringling Brothers Museum (Sarasota Bay, FL)

Summer Internships

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, will be offering seven paid internships for ten weeks from June 1 – August 7, 2015 (the two theater internships run from June 8 – August 1). The Ringling is the State Art Museum of Florida and a part of Florida State University. It consists of art and circus museums, as well as a historic mansion and theater, all on a 66-acre site overlooking Sarasota Bay.

Summer internships combine practical, hands-on experience working on a project for a specific department with exposure to all aspects of The Ringling’s operation.

Summer Internship Application 2015

Position: Archives Intern

Department: The Ringling Archives

Responsibilities: Participate in the activities of the department; assist with digitization projects, including cataloguing, editing, scanning, and entering data into The Ringling’s collections management system; assist with exhibition planning and development; assist with other projects as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree in art history, history, cultural studies, or a related field, with an interest in history museums, archives, and/or research libraries

Position: Collections Management Intern

Department: Collections Management

Responsibilities: Examine and assess The Ringling’s storage and exhibition spaces; develop a plan to increase efficiency in the storage, movement, and display of the collections; assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Graduate student with a museum studies, art history, history, or library science background; familiarity with AutoCAD or other enterprise software desirable.

Position: Curatorial Intern (Exhibitions)

Department: Curatorial (Exhibitions)

Responsibilities: Assist with the preparation of upcoming special exhibitions; research content and prepare didactics; assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Graduate student in art history with an interest in museums; excellent research and writing skills.

Position: Education Intern

Department: Education

Responsibilities: Assist with the development of in-gallery guides and activities to enhance family visits to The Ringling; assist with educational programming as needed.

Qualifications: Graduate student with strong research and communication skills; good working knowledge of art history; K-12 classroom or other experience with children.

Position: Library Intern

Department: The Ringling Art Library

Responsibilities: Research selected books from the private library of John Ringling; survey titles from John Ringling’s collection still available on the book market, for possible display at Ca’ d’Zan; assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree in art history or related field; current enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLIS program with an interest in rare books.

Position: Theater Intern (2)

Department: Historic Asolo Theater

Responsibilities: Pre-load-in preparation, load-in, and technical/dress rehearsals for The Ringling’s summer circus production; work with performers once the show is in performance; run the show.

Qualifications: Recent degree in theater and a minimum of two years technical theater experience.
