Patric Holly: iSchool Alumnus and Electronic Health Record Coordinator

Patric Holly (’11, B.S. Information Technology) is the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Coordinator at Aledade, Inc. in Bethesda, Maryland. For those unfamiliar, an EHR is a digital version of a patient’s paper chart and are real-time, patient-centered records that make information available instantly and securely to authorized users. As the EHR Coordinator, Holly is responsible for meeting with physicians and office managers to discuss EHR optimization, managing provider’s performance and quality scores, assisting providers with complex workflow modifications and assisting with EHR interfacing and data transfer.

Holly credits his education at the School of Information at FSU for providing him the confidence and knowledge he needed to secure that first job in the IT realm. While he originally planned to be an IT system administrator or network technician, the plan shifted slightly as Holly became more interested in Health IT. At the time, this was a niche that hadn’t been extensively explored and this excited him. Since Holly already loved IT, it seemed like a perfect fit. “Now I know I have the technical experience and knowledge to lead organizations into the future.”

While the world of Health IT can be daunting for some, including the professionals working in it, Holly takes pride in being able to assist them. “The best part of my job is helping providers transition from fee-for-service to value-based care. Many providers are frustrated and confused by what is expected of them, especially regarding what needs to be documented in their Electronic Health Record system. I like that I can help them understand the ever-changing healthcare landscape and reduce the burden of documentation through EHR optimization and workflow redesign.”

“My future is bright,” says Holly. “As long as I stay motivated and be intentional in my purpose, I will continue to progress.”
