At GDI, we believe brand and influence are critical to early stage social impact initiatives. As a member of the GDI communications team, you’ll have the opportunity to leverage digital to drive notable impact for our initiatives.

As an incubator, the GDI team is helping build several social impact startups at any given time. The Digital Media Associate will support digital communications activities for GDI and across GDI’s portfolio of work, from agricultural finance to mental health and everything in between. This individual will spend ~50% of their time supporting initiatives related to GDI’s agricultural finance focus area – with a significant emphasis on supporting the Mastercard Foundation RAF Learning Lab.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing multiple social media channels and website platforms at a time and an understanding of digital analytic tools. Above all, the Associate’s core mission is to improve the reach and impact of GDI and its initiatives’ digital presence. You will report to the Senior Communications Associate and work closely with the Communications Manager and GDI leadership team.



Social media

  • Manage social media platforms (including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) for GDI and up to eight early-stage initiatives
  • Work with senior management to curate weekly content and develop relevant social media messaging
  • Develop and manage digital editorial calendar to ensure consistent and timely messaging across all platforms
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest changes and trends to social tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy. Uses this knowledge to inform program strategy and tactics

Website management

  • Post and update content for GDI website and up to eight early-stage initiatives (using WordPress, Drupal, and Squarespace)
  • Manage relevant vendors to execute website updates across GDI’s portfolio

General digital marketing

  • Conduct media monitoring to ensure positive brand visibility for GDI and relevant initiatives
  • Draft and publish quarterly newsletters for GDI and related initiatives
  • Identify conferences and speaking opportunities for GDI initiatives
  • Grow our understanding of new communications channels and tools that can make GDI’s digital communications more effective
  • Use Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and Tweet Deck to analyze data across relevant social media channels and website platforms

Internal communications 

  • Manage internal GDI newsletter and curate relevant content
  • Support planning of GDI annual retreat
  • Work with management team to drive GDI marketing materials

Desired Qualities + Qualifications 

  • 1-2 years of intern of full-time experience in a professional setting
  • Knowledge and/or experience of key trends in global development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including impeccable English grammar and editing skills and the ability to translate complicated issues into clear writing
  • Superb time and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently under tight deadlines
  • Experience with marketing analytics, ideally using Google Analytics
  • Demonstrated ability of using Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram in a professional setting
  • Comfort with basic graphic design and a good “design eye”
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, video editing software (preferred)
