Library Specialist @ USF Libraries

POSITION SUMMARY

Work within the Library’s Inter-Library Loan (ILL) department, this position is responsible for processing circulating library materials to be sent to other libraries and institutions.  Receive and handle problems within the lending department of Inter-Library Loans. Supervises student assistants in the unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Access materials, renew, discharge and charge items using Library management system.  Update and create patron records.  Answers question about the library and the university. Fill in at the circulation desk as needed.

Assist in the training of hourly student assistants.

Download, print, process and update incoming documents requests on a daily basis.  Pull and process documents, micro-fiche/film, video and music scores.  Handles problems concerning lost or missing items. Arrange ILL request in alphabetical order for student employees.  Search library’s management system to confirm Tampa Campus Library holdings and appropriate call numbers.  Communicate with patrons to assist in solving problems concerning ILL lending materials.

Communicate with regional and other institutions on a regular basis, responsible for answering questions and solving problems.  Generate lost material fines from other libraries.  Charge material out using the library management system.  Handle rush catalog materials for regional campus libraries.  Place holds/recalls on request when appropriate.  Assist with ILL lending for articles when needed.  Responsible for ordering supplies for the ILL Department. Communicate with other library departments in case of Special Collection items.

Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM:

This position requires a high school diploma and three to four years of paraprofessional library experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience.

PREFERRED

One year of experience working in an InterLibrary Loan environment, and knowledge of the following systems: ILS catalog, ILLiad request software, and World Cat discovery tool.
