Research and Open Education Resources Librarian @ Melvin J Zahnow Library, Saginaw Valley State University

The Research and Open Education Resources (OER) Librarian supports the University’s OER vision, provides leadership, and manages the OER efforts of the Melvin J Zahnow Library. The Research and OER Librarian facilitates OER adoption at SVSU through advocacy, training, outreach, and collaborative efforts with discipline faculty and appropriate departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists SVSU faculty with the creation and access of open access, alternative publishing, open education resources, data management, and other issues related to open education resources through the University LMS (Canvas).

Provides stable access to faculty created course resources as part of the University Archives and Special Collections.

Works with digital repository software (OCLC CONTENTdm).

Consults with individuals and groups about the retention of intellectual property rights, copyright, open licensing, OER trends, and the open access and publishing resource available to them.

Collects data and metrics to assess use, value and impact of OER on students.

Advocates across campus for open access/educational resources and their use.

Provides guidance and education on copyright and performance rights issues.

Works with students, faculty, staff and other library users in the effective use of available information sources.

Provides classroom and group instruction in research strategies, use of information resources, library services and procedures.

Assist users with Library services, programs, resources and collections.

RELATED DUTIES:

Serves as liaison to academic departments. Develops and maintains good relations with the faculty.

Leads in the selection, evaluation, and implementation of open education resources.

Assists in the selection and evaluation of material in the library collection.

Participates in appropriate professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces.

Attend professional meetings, workshops and conferences to remain current with trends and developments in OER.

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
