Autism is the fastest growing disability in the United States, and Florida is on the cutting edge in serving patrons on the autism spectrum. In this webinar: Anne Leon, Executive Director of Public Library Services; Alvin Sherman, with the Library at Nova Southeastern University, involved in a joint use partnership between NSU and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners; and Dr. Nancy Everhart, from Florida State University’s School of Information, will present their programs. Ms. Leon will inform participants about All Star Storytime, a small group library storytime started in 2010, and adapted for children ages 3 to 5 who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Dr. Everhart will describe Project PALS (Panhandle Autism Library Services), an IMLS funded professional development initiative, that is currently designing four online webinars for librarians on how to serve patrons with autism, and how this project has been developed with input from the field.
