The Old Dominion University Darden College of Education is inviting applications for the position of assistant professor of library science education beginning July 25, 2014.  The College seeks scholars with expertise in school librarianship with experience and/or interest in researching and working with school librarians.

Duties:  Responsibilities include: 1) teaching graduate level courses in school librarianship in one or more of the core library science coursework areas, such as management, instructional design and partnership,  information access and delivery, technical services, collection development, technology, children’s and adolescent literature;  or other areas as appropriate; 2) producing scholarly research and publications in school librarianship or related areas; 3) conducting and seeking external funding to support scholarly activities; 5) building upon and developing new partnership relationships with the practitioner community; 4) mentoring and advising advanced graduate and doctoral students; and 6) teaching distance learning courses, on/off campus, developing  multi-format delivery of courses, and integrating instructional technology into the curriculum.

Required Qualifications: (a) an earned doctorate in library/information science or related field by August 31, 2014; (b) experience or potential to teach one or more of the core library science coursework areas; and (c) strong research potential or history of scholarly activities.

Preferred Qualifications:  (1) possess a doctorate in library/information science or education;  and (2)evidence of or ability to develop a record of service to the library profession (3) experience working  in a P12 school library environment.

Special consideration will be given to applicants with (1) a research agenda that focuses on school librarianship; (2) experience in securing external grants for research and program development; (3) a desire to assume leadership roles;  (4)  commitment to using technology in teaching, including online instruction; (5) active participation in professional organizations; (6) experience with the NCATE accreditation process;  and (7) a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
