Children’s Library Supervisor ( Librarian II) @ Florence County Library

Under general supervision of the Children’s Services Manager, a person in this position performs professional and specialized functions working directly with the public to provide library services for children, parents, and adults working with children, and performing duties supporting such services. Major responsibilities include: providing assistance and advice for young library patrons; assisting with the design, promotion, and conducting of library programs for children; recommending selection of new children’s titles for purchase; assisting with development and training or subordinates in children’s services; participating in short and long-range planning for the department; and performing a number of the related tasks necessary in carrying out the functions of the department. Supervises the Bookmobile Associate and Assistant.

 

Reports directly to the Children’s Services Manager, HQ Library and is in charge of the area in the absence of the Children’s Services Manager.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association preferably with at least two to three years of professional (post-MLS degree) library work in children’s services and with some managerial/supervisory experience and knowledge of children’s literature and early childhood development training and/or experience desirable- or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library.
