Job Description

The Director of Electronic Medical Record Systems is accountable for leading the efficient installation and project management of the Network’s Electronic Medical Record.  This includes coordinating all tasks, overseeing the testing and install of all systems required to provide input or output to/from the EMR, and enforcing project management, budget and change control. Collaborative, effective interaction with vendors, Department Directors, Physicians, and Executives is essential.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Project Leader between physicians, patient support departments, ancillary departments and technical staff in defining and meeting Electronic Medical Records (EMR) project objectives.

* Leads process analysis, documentation, problem resolution, and recommendation phases of development projects related to the Electronic Medical Record as evidenced by documentation.
* Oversee the project life cycle and budget for the EMR to include Change Management and all aspects of the budget. Assures that stated objectives of assigned clinical projects are attainable and within budgeted system constraints.
* Identifies potential interface or system interoperability issues and resolves with the project team.
* Consults with project staff’s to manage deadlines/project delays and establishes correction action plan.

2. Leads lifecycle development and management of the EMR evolution to all of Clinical Information Systems through project management methodology.

* Prioritizes workflow of individual projects as they relate to global departmental and organization projects to meet implementation dates.
* Determines and monitors quality measures for projects and Informatics department based upon customer needs.

3. Ensure network priorities are met by coordinating staff resources based on departmental needs and requirements. Work closely with customers on project coordination that may affect systems/applications and designate appropriate service levels needed for project.

4. Oversees decision making process for the design, selection, and implementation of new hardware and software requirements associated with the different applications on the network in relation to the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Clinical Information Systems (CIS). This may include training of users, staff, and interacting with vendors.

5. Provide clinical, technical, and analytical guidance to the project team.

* Will guide customer through implications and needs of a project.
* Will work with management to ensure resources are assigned to meet human and physical demands of project.
* Will work with user to identify any equipment or interface needs for a project.
* Will coordinate and ensure end user training is complete and up to date.
* Will present ongoing evaluation of technology solutions to the EMR Steering Committees.

6. Provide accurate and timely service via automated systems to customer departments.

* Meet with departments and team members to determine project timeframe and appropriate resources.
* Prioritizes workflow of individual projects as they relate to global departmental and organization projects to meet implementation dates.
* Determines and monitors quality measures for projects based upon customer needs.
* All projects have a completed accurate project plan from inception to Post-Go-Live.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

*  Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a health related field or Project Management
* 2-3 years Electronic Medical Records Project Management experience or related hands-on experience in implementing a network wide Electronic Health Record; 5-8 years EMR implementation experience in a hospital and ambulatory based facility preferred
* Experience with Meditech (MAGIC) is strongly preferred
* Project Management Professional Credential (PMP) from Project Management Institute or IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification a plus
