Ryan Cappy, founder of the Law Offices of Ryan Cappy, was recognized as a notable alumnus in the Seminole 100. He took his experience at Florida State University and used it to create his own law firm.
Cappy graduated from the College of Communication at Florida State, earning a B.S. in General Communication in 1997. He then entered the College of Law, graduating in 2000. He started his career working as a prosecutor at the State Attorney’s office in his hometown, Tampa. His experiences collaborating and helping others led him to plaintiff’s work and injury law, ultimately creating his own law firm in 2017.
After starting Cappy Law, Cappy found it rewarding to see the growth and change in his company first-hand. Creating a company takes time, so watching this time manifest into development felt particularly gratifying. “Our team has grown, and the vision of Cappy Law has come to life in so many ways,” shares Cappy. “As a business owner, it’s been exciting to watch the firm blossom, but what’s most rewarding is the people we’ve been able to serve.”
While becoming an entrepreneur is an experience with many benefits, there will be obstacles. Cappy shares, “In order to create the business you’ve envisioned, you’ll have to learn the art of multitasking, staying flexible, and taking on different roles when you’re first starting out.” Patience and dedication are necessary when overcoming challenges in this field, and in return, they create valuable traits that prove beneficial in all aspects of life.
When advising students on future careers and choices, Cappy stresses the importance of not waiting for one perfect opportunity or time, and instead, starting as soon as possible. Staying involved on campus during his time at FSU helped him develop many of the soft skills he uses every day in his career. Cappy shares, “you are never too young to do something, as long as you’re passionate and willing to work. Start dreaming now and surround yourself with people who are hardworking and passionate too!”
