Seminole Productions Renovation Paves Future for Media Production Students

It was 1987 and Florida State’s football coaches were ready to switch from film to video. Working with the team was then undergraduate Mark Rodin, who was up to the challenge. Thirty years later, Rodin is the Executive Director of Seminole Productions and oversees 75-100 students who gain invaluable experience in state of the art digital production facilities.

IMG_9751Students are invested in every part of production – directing, camera operation and even on-air talent. Each year, Seminole Productions handles much of the production for FSU athletics, including over 100 live productions and nearly 100 television programs annually.

This summer, Seminole Productions has undergone a renovation thanks to funding from the Athletic Department. The $12 million renovation will give Doak Campbell Stadium the second largest scoreboard in the nation behind Auburn. Also part of the renovation is the ESPN quality technology for live production, making Seminole Productions’ facilities one of the best in the country. In all, Seminole Productions will have two high-end control rooms to provide video to the highest quality video board in any college stadium and to produce live events for ESPN.

IMG_9746Training will ramp up this week on the tail end of renovations. Installation of the video board is nearly complete and it will all be unveiled at the home opener against Charleston Southern on September 10th.
