Florida State University Associate Professor and Documentary Film Maker Malia Bruker has accepted the role of Executive Vice President for the University Film & Video Association (UVFA).
The UVFA is a non-profit organization comprised of over 700 members, seeking to connect creators and prioritizing higher education within media and video creation.
Bruker focuses on documentary-style filmmaking and explores many genres within the field. Some of her most recent projects center around stories of healing through dance, highlight the Haitian workers’ rights movement, and more. Bruker is passionate about bringing light to underrepresented issues and inspiring her students.
Bruker teaches many subjects within the Digital Media Production major at Florida State, including documentary production, media literacy, and 360-degree technology. Her work has been featured in many film festivals, such as the Chicago Underground Film Festival and Athens International Film and Video Festival.
“I’m really honored to be elected to this position,” said Bruker. “UFVA is the largest organization of filmmaking professors in the US and our conference has been a home for me. I look forward to working with the other Board Members on pushing forward initiatives related to our conference, EDI efforts, and support of our faculty members.”
