Sunah Lee, a PhD student at Florida State University (FSU), was one of only 30 students nationwide chosen to attend the esteemed National Communication Association (NCA) Doctoral Honors Seminar. Held from June 4-7 at the University of Utah, this seminar brought together the nation’s most promising scholars to discuss current topics in communication.
“The program was well thought out and spot-on for the students, as most of us there are at the late stage of our PhD program. I enjoyed every moment and came home fully recharged and inspired,” Lee said.
The NCA Doctoral Honors seminar provides students with the opportunity to receive insightful feedback on their dissertation research and develop professional skills as future faculty members. Lee was prompted to apply for the program as she heads into the last year of her PhD program, in hopes of connecting with other doctoral students and mentors outside of FSU.
Lee described how she particularly appreciated the constructive feedback she received on her dissertation research from three of the professors there who specialize in interpretive research. During professional development sessions, attendees learned skills in writing a CV, publishing academic works, and using A.I. productively.
“Participating in this event truly motivated me to finish my PhD program strong. The professors I met there are so caring and encouraging that I feel my self-esteem has elevated a lot!” Lee reflected, even mentioning she felt that her participation would positively contribute to making her a stronger job candidate in the job market. “I cannot recommend my colleagues enough to apply for this event next year!”
Congratulations Sunah on her acceptance to attend the competitive NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar and a successful event!
