Shaney T. Livingston, ACLD Library Director

Shaney T. Livingston was selected to head the Alachua County Library District. Livingston was chosen by the Library District Governing Board from among three finalists. She succeeds Sol Hirsch, the former director who retired in June.

For 20 years Livingston has worked at this district in areas of finance, human resources and facilities before serving as acting director when Sol Hirsch was absent. Livingston’s knowledge of the Library District, staff, goals and budgeting issues helped her win majority support from the Board.

During the Board meeting on September 9, the public as well as library staff members spoke in support of Livingston. Several cited her experience and current working relationships with staff, community members and partners as a benefit that would facilitate a smooth transition for the district. Others noted her expertise and proven track record in financial matters. Some felt this quality was particularly important during the current difficult economic times.

“I have a great deal of administrative experience with the library, non-profits and business,” Livingston said. “I work carefully to make sound decisions that stretch our dollars so we can expand priority services to more people in more ways.”

Prior to serving as the Interim Director, Livingston’s library experience included serving as Director of Administrative Services and Budget Manager. She also has management experience with other non-profit organizations as well as additional finance experience.

“I had the pleasure to work with two excellent past directors and learned a great deal from both Sol Hirsch and Ann Williams,” said Livingston. “I have a good combination of budgeting and communication skills plus many behind-the-scenes experiences that I look forward to bringing to our great management team.”
