Professional Service Intern with the Reference and User Services Association’s Emerging Technology Section
The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) Emerging Technologies Section (ETS) of the American Library Association seeks a student to serve as an intern (unpaid) for the Fall 2026 semester. The internship provides an introduction to professional service, which is expected in many librarian positions, particularly those in academia. The internship will be virtual and is expected to be 3 hours per week (1 credit).
Learning opportunities:
· Build your professional network through meetings with members of the ETS leadership
· Attend selected meetings of various ETS committees and participate in committee work.
· Complete a project involving researching the state of an emerging technology in libraries and produce a report to assist ETS in developing programming and professional resources.
· Create a proposal for a poster session based on an aspect of your intern experience that you can submit to a conference of your choice
This would be an ideal experience for someone interested in learning more about professional life beyond daily job responsibilities and emerging technologies in libraries. Contact Melissa Becher, mbecher@american.edu, to express interest.
