Department Overview:

Travel Industry

This position is part of the Sales & Travel Operations (SATO) Public Relations team. Supporting the global sales organization, SATO PR drives Disney messages through a broad range of domestic and international media. The team’s PR efforts support the full Disney Destinations portfolio and are business-to-business focused, with emphasis on travel industry trade media, as well as consumer media for select Destinations and corresponding business units.

Group & Convention/Youth Programs

Part of the Sales & Travel Operations (SATO) Public Relations team. The G&C/Youth team interacts with industry trade media to position Disney destinations as exceptional locations for meetings, conventions, incentive programs and other group events. The team also promotes Disney Youth Programs, which include education and performance opportunities for school groups. In addition to targeting numerous trade media, Youth PR support also includes outreach to select consumer media.

Responsibilities:

 

Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support domestic and international PR efforts that target a variety of markets around the world
  • Support core PR functions, which includes managing media relationships, servicing on-property site visits, participation in media FAMs and press events
  • Working with clients to identify story opportunities
  • Developing video content for display to arriving groups
  • Assist Managers with projects, both in the office and in the field, including, but not limited to:
    • Developing story pitches, articles and case studies
    • Assist in writing press releases and listings and photo captions
    • Coordinating media visits and assist with hosting media on an as-needed basis
    • Provide general administrative support, i.e. correspondence and phone coverage
  • Assist with internal communications projects
  • Maintain databases for media information, projects and other related information
  • Create and maintain media-coverage summary reports
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Basic Qualifications:

These are the minimum qualifications required to be considered for this position:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university as a junior or senior earning a degree majoring in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Marketing or similar
  • Computer proficiency within a Windows environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong partnering and relationship skills
  • Previous internship experience in Journalism, Public Relations, Media Relations, Government Relations, Marketing or similar
  • Strong partnering skills and the desire to succeed within a team environment
  • Proven self-starter with demonstrated initiative – ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (esp. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Motivated, positive attitude and a passion for communication

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Participation in the Disney College Program and/or working knowledge of Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort
  • Previous reporting/writing experience with a student or professional publication in print, television or online media
  • Strong research skills and an understanding of how the news media works
  • Familiarity with Associated Press writing style
  • Proven self starter and with the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency within a Mac environment
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish

 

NEED TO ADD: The ability to communicate in Spanish is a desired skill set for this internship. What is your comfort level with the Spanish language, both written and verbal?
