Qualifications
A Bachelor’s in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years’ experience or a HS diploma/equivalent and post education/experience equal to 6 years.
Understanding of standard programming languages, concepts, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of web design/development using HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Ajax.
Experience in web application Development using Java, JSP/J2EE, SQL.
Experience in using deploying, tuning, and trouble-shooting web applications.
Knowledge of information technology security measures.
Ability to interpret complex written specifications and conditions.
Ability to document existing and new processes.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to convey technical information to technical and nontechnical users

Preferred
Experience is Blackboard building block development
Apache/Tomcat web server experience.
Experience in using Netbeans, Eclipse, Oracle SQL Developer, and SVN

Responsibilities
The Application Developer/Designer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining programs supporting the university’s testing center and online course delivery system.

More specifically, the Application Developer/Designer will be expected to:

Collaborate with other Office of Distance Learning (ODL) Development team members and project managers to design, develop, debug, deploy, maintain, and document applications and extensions that support ODL’s testing center and the FSU online course delivery system (Blackboard).

Work with application and database administrators, project managers, and support team members to assess programming needs, development timelines, and application performance.

Learn and evaluate new technologies and methodologies, both individually and in collaboration with the development team, to improve or expand upon services.

This position also performs other programming tasks and duties as assigned in support of ODL’s mission.
