Job Description
The College of Communication and Information (CCI) is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Assistant Webmaster to work closely with other Comm Team members to support and advance the 29 CCI WordPress websites that are hosted on a Linux VM. You will be working ~20 hours a week (your choice) at $10 an hour with possible pay increases and advancement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating application forms as various departments move from paper-based applications to online applications
- Contacting and visiting other departments to identify their web-needs and to help find solutions
- Adding new faculty & removing retired faculty from the online directory
- Editing or restructuring current webpages based on the needs communicated from other departments and your own rules regarding webpage usability
- Securing our websites and webserver with firewalls
- Fixing broken links
- Creating new WordPress websites
- Modifying code contained within one or more Git repositories on Bitbucket
- Ensure users in other departments have access and ability to log in to our websites and modify content
- Implement “Revisions” feature on a few sites without that feature
- Monitoring Google Analytics to see pattern of visits to improve site usage
- Brainstorming solutions for errors appearing in Apache error log
- Providing input for continuous improvement
- Responding to emails

- Apache, Nginx or other web server software experience desirable
- Linux, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS experience desirable
- Google Analytics or other analytics experience desirable

The five highest traffic websites you will manage often are: cci.fsu.edu, ischool.cci.fsu.edu, comm.cci.fsu.edu, scsd.cci.fsu.edu, and news.cci.fsu.edu.
You will have your own cubicle, desk, and Mac desktop computer in the William Johnston building on FSU’s campus in room 2022.
