Qualifications
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate areas of specialization include the earth sciences, business, education, communications, and information studies.
Requirements
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; must be thorough, and detail-oriented. Competence in technical writing with excellent oral and written communication skills. Display a strong and explicit commitment to working with scientists from diverse disciplines and have the ability to integrate knowledge from various fields. Ability to work independently and manage multiple activities. Critical thinking skills and high levels of initiative and responsibility. Competence in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Preferred
Knowledge of web design, database design, Adobe PhotoShop, and Adobe InDesign is preferred, but not required.
Schedule
Part-time, between 9am and 5pm. Afternoons preferred. Candidates should have the flexibility to attend meetings when needed that are outside of their regular schedule. Limited travel within Florida may be required.
Contracts and Grants
The position is funded by contract and grant monies.
Responsibilities
The Florida Climate Institute (FCI) is a new joint venture between the University of Florida and the Florida State University. The coordinator at FSU will work closely with a coordinator at UF to develop the FCI, including but not limited to planning meetings, planning a seminar series, organizing special events, developing the website, and developing promotional and information materials. The coordinator will work to increase awareness of the FCI among faculty members and the stakeholder community, and pursue and manage new opportunities for research, education, and outreach projects relating to climate and applications of climate information.
