Librarian/ Research Services Coordinator


The Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT) in Gainesville, Florida is a non-profit organization that promotes practical applications of C.G. Jung’s theory of psychological types and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®).  CAPT is seeking a service-oriented Librarian for the Isabel Briggs-Myers Memorial Library.

 

The Librarian handles incoming requests for library services by phone, email, and in person, and also invoices patrons for services provided.  This includes finding and providing information and resources for library patrons, potential CAPT customers, MBTI users, as well as assisting MBTI researchers. Customer service provided also involves facilitating and maintaining connections between library patrons, MBTI researchers and CAPT, and also facilitating connections among MBTI researchers.   The librarian also works to maintain and develop the MBTI collection, including searching for new acquisitions and assessing the value of the current collection. The librarian institutes and manages special projects to improve and update the library collection and library services. Keeps records and does reporting for research/library services.

 

Requirements

  • Interest in psychological type and/or learning about psychological type.
  • Self motivated and ability to work independently, and to oversee a part-time assistant and/or student interns.
  • Able to provide quality customer service and research assistance.
  • Interest in being the liaison between researchers, clinicians, and various MBTI users in the Type community.  Also, liaison between the type community, CAPT, and other MBTI supporting organizations.  This involves a facility for both networking and customer service.
  • Familiarity with library research.   This includes assisting patrons with their library research as well as for searching for potential acquisitions, with the goal of improving the MBTI Library collection and making it more user-friendly.
  • Motivated to modernize current library infrastructure and upgrade library collection.  This means initiating and managing projects to make the library more user-friendly, and the library collection more relevant and accessible.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, general office copying and scanning equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, specialization flexible.  Background in library/information science preferred.  Background in library preservation helpful.  Copyediting experience a plus.
