Library Director

The South Georgia Regional Library is currently searching for a new director. As a
Library and Information Science professional, we would like to make you aware of this

South Georgia Regional Library is a vibrant organization serving a wide spectrum of
community needs. This six branch system spans Lowndes, Lanier, and Echols Counties
and serves approximately 113,000 individuals in South Georgia. Forty percent of all
residents have a PINES card showing their support of the South Georgia Regional
Library system. In the past three years the library has seen a 31% surge in computer
usage and a cumulative 21% growth in circulation.

Working for the South Georgia Regional Library will give an individual the opportunity
to make a lasting impact on the community. The region is changing rapidly and the
library is at the forefront of that growth. The Regional Board of Trustees is currently
working on a building project to replace the current main facility and the new director
will play an integral role in this endeavor.

Applicants must posses a MLIS and have at least eight years of professional experience
in a library with a minimum of five years of experience supervising a system-wide

DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE

Assistant Director of Public Services, Assistant Director of Support Services, Community Relations/Development Coordinator, Business Manager, Executive Assistant, Technology Facilities Coordinator Under administrative direction, the Director directs the operations of the Library to ensure quality library service to the community and ensures that the Library complies with all applicable laws and policiesand decisions of the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Ensures that the Library provides a high quality collection of materials and services to meet the
needs of the community

Ensures that all library materials are properly cataloged, shelved and available to patrons

Ensures that the collection is maintained and weeded on a regular basis and all staff members
treat all patrons courteously and impartially

Develops and administers the budget and implements cost containment measures

Ensures that all service contracts are developed in compliance with advertising and competitive bidding requirements and that contract obligations are fulfilled

Positions the Library for greatest impact and service

Represents the Library by participating on community and professional boards committees task boards, committees, forces, councils, and organizations

Develops and articulates a strong vision to staff and constituents to ensure that the Library is
proactive and responsive, patron and community centered, forward thinking and mission driven

Works with the Board of Trustees to develop and recommend overall library standards and
direction, personnel policies, fiscal and facilities planning

Fosters a climate of participation, creativity, and teamwork with and among staff

Provides leadership in strategic planning to meet identified needs

Develops a cooperative working relationship with each member of the Board of Trustees

Oversees Board agenda and packet preparation and distribution

Serves as a member of the Administrative Team

Attends meetings of the Board of Trustees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience

Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school
A minimum of eight (8) years of professional library experience in positions with progressive
levels of responsibility

A minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising a system-wide department or branch
library

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and
records

Ability to work accurately with attention to detail

Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order

Knowledge of strategic planning, public administration, cost/benefit analysis methods, budget
development and administration, bond and tax levy financing

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations and policies

Knowledge of state and federal employment laws

Ability to address and resolve patron conflicts equitably

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
