MAJOR FUNCTION: Tallahassee Community College seeks a service-oriented person to assist TCC students, faculty, staff and the community as part of the Library’s Access Services Team. The person in this position will serve as the public face of the library, greeting, directing and answering questions at our service desks. Primary responsibilities also include circulation duties such as charging and discharging library materials, maintaining patron records and resolving patron issues; collection maintenance duties such as shelving, shelf reading and inventory; providing reference assistance to library patrons; assisting patrons in locating materials in the collection; and assisting patrons with fax machines, copiers and network printers. Also, assists the Head of Access Services and the Director’s Office with monthly reports and special projects (e.g. surveys, special reports, etc.) and with scheduling, training and supervising of College Work Study students and OPS workers.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited two-year institution of higher education or (60) hours completed towards a four-year degree and two (2) years of library or related experience. An additional 30 hours of college course work may substitute for one of the two years required experience.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of basic library services, functions and resources. Knowledge of Services and general operations of the Access Services Department. Knowledge of goals of college and division and commitment to success of these goals. Skill in the operation of standard office equipment including typewriters, photocopiers, networked printers, fax machines, multi-line telephones, calculators, basic audio-visual equipment. Skill in the effective use of personal computing software including Microsoft Office suite of applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Effective written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail. Exemplary customer service. Ability to perform as part of a public service team committed to exemplary and proactive customer service. Ability to communicate effectively and positively in an ethnically and culturally diverse environment. Ability to assist in the maintenance of a large collection of library materials utilizing the Library of Congress classification system. Ability to supervise work study students and OPS employees under the direction of department head. Ability to work independently following detailed oral and/or written instructions and manuals. Ability to complete detailed work with high degree of accuracy. Ability to assist with special projects (e.g. surveys, special reports, etc.) and library displays. Ability to handle inquiries and complaints from the college and surrounding communities with professionalism and exemplary customer service. Ability to comply with library and college policies, national and state laws (FERPA, etc.)
PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to those individuals with previous library experience, customer service experience (especially on a service desk), and technology skills. Preference will also be given to veterans and spouses who are eligible under the Veterans’ Preference Law.
