The Maine Legislature’s Law and Legislative Reference Library, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking a full-time Associate Law Librarian. Ideal candidates should value public service and be enthusiastic about supporting the important work of the Maine Legislature. Ideal candidates possess a Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program; possess strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail; demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; and have the ability to work as an effective team member and a willingness to be trained in other areas of the library. An employee in this position must work in a highly confidential and nonpartisan manner.
Examples of responsibilities include: Conduct reference interviews with library patrons. Perform and deliver research on basic questions. Perform more complicated research under the guidance of senior law librarians. Provide original and copy cataloging for library materials. Maintain and cultivate vendor relations as directed. Develop research materials as directed. May include oversight of library binding, transferal of audio materials and similar tasks.
Salary and Benefits: Grade 8 of the Legislative Salary Schedule (salary range begins at $47,382 annually, plus benefit package). Value of State-paid health and dental insurance is currently $397.84 biweekly. Value of State’s share of retirement is currently 15.12% of employee’s gross pay. EEO Employer.
