Catalog/Reference Librarian position @ Jackson State Community College

The Catalog/Reference Librarian catalogs library materials, assists in providing information literacy instruction, participates in provision of library reference service and is in charge of interlibrary loan services.

Duties and Responsibilities:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Cataloging
• Provides copy cataloging and processing of Library materials
• Provides original cataloging of Library materials when needed.
• Withdraws discarded library materials from the Integrated Library System (Sierra) and the Online Library Computer Center (OCLC).
• Develops and coordinates cataloging policies and procedures
• Organizes JSCC historical materials and photos and works towards digitization of these materials.
Reference
• Serves as embedded librarian.
• Participates in scheduled individual research consultations with library patrons along with other librarians. Participates in the Library’s chat service.
Interlibrary Loan
• Requests materials not in the JSCC Library collection using the Worldshare Interlibrary Loan system
• Answers requests for materials from other libraries using the WorldShare interlibrary loan system.
Other Assigned Duties
• Provides Library instruction.
• Works circulation desk.
• Serves as appointed on college committees.
• Collaborates with other library staff members on planning for various activities.
• Updates skills through webinars, conferences, readings, etc.

Required Qualifications:                                                                                                                                                            Master’s Degree from an American Library Association accredited Library/Information Science program.
Practical experience with AACR2 cataloging rules, Library of Congress Classification, MARC formats and automated cataloging functions.
Practical experience in searching in electronic databases and the Internet.
Computer proficiency.Practical experience using standard Microsoft Office software.
Excellent interpersonal skills in speaking and writing to enable the candidate to work with diverse clientele and the ability to work well with others.
Flexible, innovative and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
