Director, Upshur County (WV)

The Upshur County Public Library Board is seeking an enthusiastic leader who is passionate about libraries and the important role they play in communities.  The UCPL is a full service library located in Buckhannon, WV, a progressive college community approximately two hours south of Pittsburgh, PA and two hours north of Charleston, WV.

The successful candidate must be an effective communicator, have strong organizational skills, demonstrate management experience and possess a sound work ethic. Proficiency with information technology is essential.  Experience with grant writing would be beneficial.

Located in central West Virginia, Upshur County is home to a population of about 25,000. The UCPL is a single facility system but also is designated a Service Center by the West Virginia Library Commission.  As a Service Center, UCPL provides professional librarian expertise, continuing education and administrative services to 13 “affiliates” in a five county region. Accordingly, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to work with various local boards, and to provide advice and counsel to those boards.

UCPL has an annual operating budget of approximately $300,000 and a staff of 5 FTEs.

The minimum requirement for the position is an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and three years of professional library service, including direct supervision of staff.  The salary range is $37,500 – $40,000, dependent upon experience, with a competitive benefits package.
