JOB SUMMARY
This position manages all aspects of Access Services at the Education Library, including supervision of student assistant staff and OPS budget management. Additional responsibilities include management of circulation activities, fines/billing, stacks management, and contributing to overall development of access services policies and procedures library-wide. Provides direct service to faculty as well as processes and digitizes materials for access. Serves as liaison to outside departments including Library Communications, Library HR, Facilities, and IT. Serves on library committees or workgroups as appointed. Provides administrative support and leadership for various library projects and initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISES EDUCATION LIBRARY SERVICES DESK and ALL ACCESS SERVICES RELATED FUNCTIONS
- Manages Education Library service desk (circulation, reference, media/equipment) and coordinates desk schedule for library faculty, staff, and student employees.
- Contributes to the development of campus-wide library access services policies/procedures through service on the Access and Resource Sharing Steering Team, and develops and documents local procedures for the Education Library.
- Serves as liaison to other access services units across campus.
- Maintains all documents related to access services and local collection maintenance functions.
- Oversees maintenance of library stacks to ensure that collections are accessible through activities such as shelving, shelf reading, and proper signage.
- Contributes to the management and access of library equipment and technology, including inventory, troubleshooting, and reporting.
- Monitors general facilities issues such as lighting, maintenance, environmental control, etc., and reports problems to appropriate library and University departments.
- Coordinates with Education Library faculty and staff on deselection and storage projects, including transfer of materials to storage facilities
- Assists with space planning and collection use studies by monitoring the growth and use of the collection.
- Coordinates UBorrow checkouts and returns.
- Provides back-up for ILL Lending tasks.
- Collects, documents, and reports public services statistics.
- Acts as backup for Course Reserve processing as needed.
Student Supervision
- Supervises student assistants including interviewing, hiring, time reporting, performance evaluations, training, and daily work operations.
- Works closely with the Evening/Weekend Services Manager to ensure student staff are trained and that tasks are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Manages the Education Library’s OPS budget and communicates with the Libraries’ HR office regarding OPS hiring, termination, and payroll matters.
Works Scheduled Hours at the Education Library Public Services Desk and Ask-a-Librarian Service
- Works scheduled hours at the service desk. Includes opening/closing if scheduled.
- Performs basic and supervisory level circulation system transactions and responds appropriately to patron inquiries about circulation matters.
- Provides general reference assistance and help with directional queries, and makes referrals to other staff when appropriate.
- Helps to maintain an environment conducive for study and research by ensuring that policies are observed.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
- Attends library-wide, departmental and other meetings.
- Serves on committees as assigned.
- Contributes to ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned.
- Participates in staff development and training to upgrade job related skills.
Supervises Fines/Billing Operations
- Supervises processing of operations reports and notices.
- Bills and refunds patron accounts according to established procedures.
- Investigates problem reports and communicates with patrons regarding fines/billing matters.
- Communicates promptly and effectively with patrons regarding fines/billing matters.
Other Duties
- Edits Education Library website when needed, including periodic changes to library hours.
- Contributes to marketing and communications activities including social media.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
High School diploma or equivalent and seven years of library, or relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree and five years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred:
- Experience managing access services (circulation, stacks maintenance, general reference, etc.) in an academic library
- Experience tracking and managing budgets
- Experience with supervision and training
- Experience providing customer service
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to accomplish goals
- Experience producing and manipulating digital files including PDFs and multiple image/audio/video formats
- Experience using Alma library management system
- Experience using PeopleSoft
- Experience creating reports and generating statistics
- Degree in or substantial knowledge of Education and/or related fields
- Flexibility, and ability to adapt and work in a rapidly changing academic environment
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, TEAMS, WordPress, and Outlook
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication
