Position Description: Florida Book Awards OPS Communications Director
This OPS position works in coordination with the Florida Book Awards Executive Director and provides support for the Florida Book Award’s operations and communications.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Communicate regularly and coordinate operations and communications with the Florida Book Awards Executive Director
- Respond to daily email in the Florida Book Awards Gmail account
- Publicize the awards program to authors, publishers, and the public; season begins each July
- Organize materials on Google drive and create files to document and organize information
- Assist in coordination of the Florida Book Awards book submission process
- Record and process all books received as entries to the Florida Book Awards competition
- Process and record all entry payments to the Florida Book Awards competition and other payments, such as tickets for the awards dinner
- Prepare payments to be sent to the FSU Foundation for processing
- Communicate with authors/publishers entering books in the competition and competition winners
- Communicate with jurors for each of the 11 categories, including sending monthly updates of books entered in that category
- Update Florida Book Awards social media platforms, including website, Facebook, and Instagram
- Coordinate publicity for competition winners with Florida Book Awards Executive Director and Event and Marketing Manager
- Coordinate with FSU Marketing department to develop graphics and content for social media posts and other publicity materials
- Communicate with partner organizations: Florida Humanities, Department of State Division of Library and Information Services, Midtown Reader
- Create a PowerPoint slide presentation featuring winning books and authors
- Assist with awards dinner and other events for competition winners
- Create display of winning books in Strozier Library
- Identify and develop potential partnerships and relationships with publishers
- Communicate with University Libraries personnel (i.e., Dean, Director of Development, and other staff members as necessary)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Flexibility
- Experience using Google mail, documents, spreadsheets, forms, and other tools
- Proficiency in using PowerPoint
- Experience using social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram
Hours may vary between 10 and 20 hours per week depending on the needs of the program.
