Information Specialist III @ Department of State Division of Library and Information Services State Library of Florida

This position is within the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services, State Library of Florida requiring an enthusiasm for customer service and a love of history.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years relevant work experience OR an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Resume and cover letter.

Preferences:

  • One year of customer service
  • One year of library work experience.
  • Seeking a degree or interested in pursuing a degree in library or information studies, history, political science or related field.
  • Experience with data entry or database management.

Salary and Hours Per Week:

  • $16.50 per hour
  • Working hours: Part-time, Monday through Friday, not to exceed 28 hours per week, flexible schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for a wide range of activities in support of the State Library of Florida. The candidate will work in collaboration with staff in the lending services section to assist in providing customer service to library patrons.

  • Performs Circulation activities.
  • Staffs the public service desk.
  • Provides information for in-person, telephone and electronic inquiries.
  • Fulfills electronic article delivery requests via State Library Table of Contents service.
  • Assists with processing statewide resource sharing (Interlibrary Loan) requests.
  • Assists in the digitization of library materials to ensure accessibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly with patrons, co-workers and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide customer service to library users.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with a variety of computer applications
  • Ability to lift and process boxes of books that may weigh up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to bend and reach to shelve materials.
  • Ability to push loaded book trucks.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs.
