Instruction and Engagement Librarian @ The University of Central Florida Libraries

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries seeks a forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and collaborative librarian to join our team of instruction and engagement librarians.  The Teaching and Engagement department at the UCF Libraries is known for developing innovative approaches to creating scalable instruction and actively engaging our large student population.  The Instruction and Engagement Librarian will coordinate the face-to-face instruction program, which typically reaches 400 classes and 10,000 students per year.  This position will also be responsible for exploring and implementing technologies to increase student engagement such as social media, video, and LibGuides.  The successful candidate will work with campus offices and programs to reach a targeted population for outreach and engagement, and duties include programming library events and conducting face-to-face library instruction.

Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Head of the Teaching and Engagement department, the Instruction & Engagement Librarian will have an active role in instruction, outreach, and marketing the library’s services and resources, and will engage with a targeted campus population such as transfer or first year students.

The successful candidate will:

  • Assign and schedule library instruction sessions for a group of 11 subject librarians
  • Work with teaching librarians to implement assessment strategies in library instruction
  • Provide professional development for librarians on creating effective and engaging instruction
  • Analyze instruction statistics and track program, faculty, and student usage
  • Participate in the face-to-face instruction program by designing lessons, teaching sessions, and recording class data
  • Lead the Libraries’ instructional and promotional video team
  • Serve as the department’s representative on the Libraries’ Web Working Group
  • Plan, implement, evaluate and refine a diverse range of outreach, programming, and instructional support services for an identified campus audience
  • Facilitate library services for assigned academic department(s) as a member of the Subject Librarian team
  • Perform collection development for assigned subject area(s)
  • Serve assigned hours on the Research & Information Desk and/or Ask Us reference service
  • Participate in library and university activities and committees and be professionally active

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association-accredited institution
  • Two years of academic library experience
  • Strong public service orientation with experience providing library instruction

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience assessing student learning in library instruction
  • Demonstrated familiarity with information literacy theory and practice
  • Experience with social media in the academic library setting
  • Basic knowledge of html and web best practices
  • Record of developing and deploying streaming video content
  • Experience creating and manipulating digital images
  • Experience working with academic student support units and groups
  • History of working collaboratively with diverse constituencies
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Salary and Rank:  Commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a twelve month, non-tenure track faculty position with insurance and retirement benefits, 22 paid annual days, 13 sick days, 9 holidays, and no state income tax.
