POSITION DESCRIPTION:
An excellent opportunity is available for a self-motivated individual to fill a non-resident Park Services Specialist position at Koreshan State Historic Site. The Park offers 60 campsites, a picnic area and nature trail along the Estero River. The Historic Settlement includes eleven structures and Victorian garden landscape listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Estero Bay Preserve State Park and Mound Key Archeological State Park located in the Estero Bay are also under park management. The candidate will be required to work independently with minimal supervision providing visitor services, resource management, administration, maintenance and protection of park facilities and guests.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
VISITOR SERVICES: Plans, prepares, and presents educational and interpretive programs, both on and off site, in order to gain public support for park management goals. Plans and prepares the content of educational programs involving the description of museum exhibits, structures, grounds and artifacts. Designs and prepares exhibits for interpretation. Promotes park programs through use of multimedia. Plans and prepares programs to meet ADA specifications. ADMINISTRATION: Participates in preparation of reports, research, grants and associated education materials and archives. Coordinates scheduling of educational program and volunteer docents. Participates in volunteer recruitment and training. Participates in cataloging in order to gain educational knowledge. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Maintains cultural resource files, artifact inventories, coordinates and participates in appropriate preservation of cultural resources according to Secretary of the Interior Standards. Observes and reports condition of historic structures and artifacts. Assists with preservation projects and performs research in order to further educational knowledge. Monitors archaeological sites and produces status documentation. MAINTENANCE: Assists in the historic upkeep and basic maintenance of work area and minor cleaning duties. Assists in the restoration and maintenance of archaeological resources.
PROTECTION: Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all facilities and resources. Performs security checks of work areas.
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of preservation methods and techniques in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Historic Preservation. Skilled in: computers and related software (experience with Past Perfect v6 preferred); the research, planning and preparation of educational materials including PowerPoint presentations; the development and coordination of museum exhibits; technical report writing and effective verbal & written communication principles and techniques. Ability to: follow written and verbal instructions; handle constructive criticism; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; understand, interpret and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations; prepare reports and grants; compile and organize programs and proposed projects; conduct routine inspections; identify and investigate problems; deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner; conduct public interest programs; conduct training programs; maintain a valid driver’s license; work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays and special events throughout the year.
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Valid Florida Class E driver’s license or an out-of-state class equivalent driver’s license. Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent of this position, in accordance with sections 110.1127 and 435.07, F.S. and DEP directive 422 (Background Investigation), is required to successfully complete a background and fingerprint check. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably with a focus in history, archeology, anthropology, historic preservation, museum studies, or another related field. This position requires the wearing of a uniform.
Working hours: (A) Daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 PM (B) Total hours in work week 40 (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.) Rotating shifts, may include some evenings, weekends, holidays and special event.
