Position Description:
The Librarian is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive media center to support staff, faculty, and students at technical colleges. Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Policy Manual and accreditation standards. Follows rules and regulations as described by the TCSG Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
Major Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:
•Provide reference services utilizing a variety of information resources with an emphasis on computer and Internet research applications.
•Schedule, coordinate and deliver library class instruction and orientation sessions in the use of library resources and services with an emphasis on GALILEO databases throughout the college service area.
•Transact and maintain interlibrary loan borrowing and lending requests and local holding union listings.
•Oversee circulation and patron database operations and distribution of library overdue notices.
•Maintain library usage statistics, user surveys, and other quantitative measures for tracking library use and corresponding reports.
•Assist in the development and maintenance of library resource guides and training materials, utilizing excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Assist in the selection, acquisition, and processing of new library materials.
•Assist in the supervision of Milledgeville campus library staff.
•Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of the library’s automation system and online resources.
Location/Schedule:
This position is projected to work the College’s normal business hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays. Additional hours to include evenings and/or weekends may be required as needed. The position will be assigned to the Milledgeville campus with travel within the college service area as needed. This position is scheduled to work all 12 months per the calendar year and at 40 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned Master degree in Library and Information Science from an American LibraryAssociation (ALA) accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications, in addition to minimum qualifications:
Documented work experience in a college library reference and instruction department
Documented knowledge of ExLibris library automation system (Alma)
Job Competencies:
Knowledge of library materials, methods, and organization
Knowledge of the methods of classifying, cataloging and shelf-listing books
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification systems
Knowledge of bibliographies, card catalogs, indexes, guides, encyclopedias, and other reference materials used in the library
Knowledge of research methods
Skilled in operating a computer and job-related software programs
Skilled in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public
Oral and written communication skills
Skilled in operating basic office machinery
Skilled in organizing and multitasking
Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence related to work
Decision making and problem-solving skills
Salary/Benefits:
Target annual gross salary range is mid-upper $40s. Actual annual gross salary will be determined by the candidate’s highest qualifying degree level and related work experience based on meeting published minimum and preferred qualifications. This is a full-time position scheduled to work 12 months a year and 40 hours per week. The position is eligible for state benefits to include insurance, leave accrual, retirement and holiday pay. CGTC is a member of the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) and the Employees Retirement System of Georgia (ERS).
