Reference/Instructional Services Librarian
Faculty—Tenure Track, 12 month (start date immediately)

Job Summary: Assists on the reference desk, providing assistance to users of library print and electronic resources. Also, responsible for classroom library instructions and other information literacy projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provides courteous, prompt assistance, instruction and guidance to faculty, students, and other patrons in the use of library resources via the Reference Desk and bibliographic instructions. Assists in information literacy projects and instruction program as needed.

EDUCATION: ALA-accredited MLS required; second master’s degree in subject field preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 2 years post-MLS experience in academic library public service preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proven knowledge of a wide range of print, electronic and Internet-based reference
tools.
• Experience in bibliographic instruction (preferably academic)
• Demonstrated teaching ability (preferably in an academic setting).
• Evidence of awareness of current trends in librarianship, information technology, social
media and instructional video.
• Evidence of awareness of information literacy.
• Educational background in the liberal arts and sciences or business.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a complex, team-based environment and with a diverse user group.
• Knowledge of and interest in creative use of technology in library instruction.
• Strong service orientation.
• Proven ability to maintain currency with new software releases and updates, including
research databases and Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility-some night and weekend hours are required.

Job Tasks:
Provides assistance, instruction and guidance to faculty, students, and other patrons in the use of library resources. This includes explanation and instruction for the library catalog, online databases, library website and other print and electronic reference resources including the Internet. Job tasks also include:
• Provides library instruction for course-related classes in collaboration with faculty.
• Assists in information literacy projects and instruction program as needed.
• Provides library support on Reference Desk.
• Prepares instructional videos/tutorials.
• Prepares LibGuides as indicated by faculty/student interests.
• Participates in professional continuing education.
• Assists in collection development by recommending library materials for purchase.
• Participates in ongoing evaluation of the library collections and services.
• Participates in and represents University functions, activities and organizations as
appropriate.
• Participates in University community service.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services.
