Tisch Library supports three Tufts’ Schools – Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts – providing collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to assist the Tufts community in teaching, learning, research, and the creation and dissemination of scholarship.
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University was founded in 1876 as part of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In 1945, the SMFA began a partnership with Tufts University to offer joint degrees. This relationship continued and evolved until 2016, when the school formally became part of Tufts. This unique partnership-a major museum, a top-ranked research university, and one of the nation’s oldest art schools-has produced a legacy of creative leadership and cultural impact that endures today.
The Research and Instruction Librarian at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University serves the faculty and students by providing individualized research consultations as well as managing class visits. They meet with faculty to discuss curricula and develop specific course plans for library visits. This position serves as the Undergraduate Fine Arts Liaison to the Research and Instruction Team at Tisch Library.
