Research Librarian and Director of ARC Tutoring, Birmingham-Southern College (AL)

Birmingham-Southern College seeks a creative and dedicated library professional to fill the position of Research Librarian and Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC). This 9-month faculty position is responsible for supporting academic research for students and faculty utilizing both print and electronic resources. Supporting research includes instruction and reference service, creation of library guides, collection development, and serving as a liaison to academic departments.  This position is also responsible for the supervision of the ARC peer-tutoring program, which includes hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating peer tutors; maintaining the TutorTrac management system; and participating in assessment of the tutoring program. Additional responsibilities include academic advising and service on College committees.

 

This position reports to the library director and works a Sunday through Thursday, 1:30 to 10:00 p.m. schedule (with some flexibility). An MLIS from an ALA-accredited program is required, as is relevant experience in an academic setting and familiarity with library resources and instruction techniques.  Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills and a commitment to student success are also desired.
