The Florida Institute of Technology seeks a highly motivated and service-oriented individual to join the Evans Library as a User Experience Librarian. This is a full-time faculty position reporting to the Assistant Dean, User Experience. The User Experience Librarian provides leadership, innovation, and a model of service for the front-line iDesk team focusing primarily on exceptionally attentive service and the accurate dissemination of information to students, faculty and staff in a creative, fun and welcoming environment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership for the staff and student employees at the iDesk, developing and implementing strategic initiatives to provide excellent user experience through hands-on individualized assistance with instruction, research and lending.
- Supervises, engages, inspires, and works side-by-side with the iDesk team to support student learning, academic programs, faculty teaching and research, and the objectives of Florida Tech.
- Leads efforts to ensure seamless access to Library resources and services at every Library touch point, providing full-service, technologically-rich assistance for students, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Supports innovative outreach and promotion for Library events, workshops and instruction to highlight the enriching experiences available to the Florida Tech community through the Library.
- Works closely with the Assistant Dean, User Experience to assess and enhance service quality, including development of metrics and analysis of data.
- Manages the administration of the iDesk through supervising, scheduling, training, mentoring and evaluating iDesk staff.
- Keeps current with relevant and emerging library and scholarly research trends and practices in higher education, public services and user experience.
- Represents Florida Tech as needed at regional and national conferences and meetings.
- Serves on Library and university committees.
Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
- Minimum two years of library leadership experience
- Demonstrated success in leading a team and managing change in a dynamic information environment.
- Awareness of current trends and best practices in user experience, public services, outreach and/or event planning.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to solve problems and manage complex workflows, strong commitment to working collaboratively across departments, and excellent oral and written communications skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Subject experience in an engineering or science field as an undergraduate or demonstrated equivalent.
