Level of Education- At least a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English or equivalent from an accredited university or college and at least three years experience working in a communications-related field, such as news reporting or public relations.

Description of Duties:
This position requires a broad spectrum of communications skills and experience. Duties include working with news media on species and habitat programs and activities of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, as well as providing the agency’s perspective on a variety of news coverage situations. Responsibilities include conducting live and taped interviews for broadcast media, interviews with print media, coordinating interviews for media with subject matter experts, briefing subject matter experts on media questions and concerns, and keeping abreast of news clips published each day. Other duties involve writing and editing many types of communications. Responsibilities include writing talking points, frequently asked questions and fact sheets on hot button issue. Also this position requires the writing of news releases and media advisories, as well as writing magazine articles and columns. In addition, this position is responsible for creating, advising, editing and managing a myriad of projects from inception to completion through multi-media design staff. This position serves on various committees throughout the agency as the communications expert.
The successful applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities.

Strong writing and editing skills and experience with at least two years experience in Associated Press style.
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to cordially communicate with the public and media and serve as the agency spokesperson to media for on-camera and on-the-record interviews.
Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform via mass communication.
Knowledge of graphics products and ability to choose appropriate products for specific targets and audiences.
Knowledge of principles and methods involved in developing marketing and outreach strategies and tactics.
Familiarity with or appreciation for wildlife, fishing, hunting and other outdoor recreation.
