Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or mass communication is required for this position with a minimum of five years professional experience in TV, radio, or print news gathering. Management experience in a public relations agency may substitute. Experience in media relations and AP style writing and prior work history in managing content for print, video, and online media outlets. Supervisory experience required with excellent project management and the ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines. Expertise in the use of a computer and specifically within the Microsoft Office software suite and the ability to work in both team environments and individually, dependent upon the circumstances and assignment. Superior written and verbal communication; Ability to work with a diverse population of team members and constituents and willingness to work collaboratively as a member of the Association and participate enthusiastically in the life of the University.
  • A service oriented approach is a must with careful attention to detail.
  • Proof of a valid FL or GA driver*s license or ability to obtain.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

Schedule
If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Responsibilities

  • The essential functions of the position include, but is not limited to the following:
  • Develops and manages strategic internal and external communication and branding efforts
  • Manages all electronic and print communication while supervising associated staff.
  • Develops communication strategies that articulate key messages and consistently advance the Association’s mission and goals.
  • Manages the Association’s media relations efforts, including general publicity and media buying.
  • Manages the expectations of event attendance by working collaboratively with programs staff and designing communications, marketing and grass-roots campaigns to meet attendance goals of all alumni events.
  • Identifies story ideas, conducts interviews and research, and develops impact and feature stories for VIRES magazine, Alumination e-newsletter and the Association Web sites.
  • Writes and edits feature stories, impact stories, articles and briefs for various internal and external publications in accordance with accepted stylistic standards.
  • Serves as an editor and writer in the development and management of VIRES, the Association’s biannual publication.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical reports to evaluate alumni communications and services, and manages the department.
  • Establishes measures for monitoring accountability and effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Takes a lead role in the conceptualization and development of collateral material for major projects, including membership materials and special event collateral material, and will coordinate the production of all communication materials, both print and electronic.
  • Supports marketing and promotional efforts for membership, special events, alumni programs and affinity partnerships.
  • Articulates key messages that advance the Alumni Association’s mission and goals.
  • Assists other Association staff with writing, editing and proofreading letters, programs, press releases, invitations and advertisements.
  • Represents the Alumni Association at Communications Group and BBNC meetings
  • Protects confidential information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
