Reference/Instruction Librarian

UCF Libraries seeks an energetic librarian who takes initiative and is prepared to support the academic mission of the institution through high quality reference services, library instruction and collection development. The successful candidate will be service-oriented and willing to provide and develop reference services. Reference Services provides research assistance to patrons through the virtual Ask A Librarian service, traditional desk reference in the Knowledge Commons, and research consultations. The department of 15 faculty and staff includes Government Documents and InfoSource, a fee-based search service; the position reports to the Head of Reference Services. This librarian may serve on library and university committees. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Responsibilities:
• Provides general and specialized reference and research assistance for on-site and virtual library users including IM, chat, phone and research consultations. Develops reference aids using a variety of media.
• Participates in the development, implementation and assessment of services, policies, procedures and publications.
• Participates in an active library and information literacy instruction program; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Serves as liaison to identified academic programs and departments and develops a collection to support assigned areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Required:
• Master’s degree from an American Library Association-accredited institution.
• Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications: Preferred:
• Subject knowledge in chemistry, physics, engineering, or related fields.
• Experience with virtual reference service.
• Teaching experience and knowledge of current pedagogy on effective teaching.
• Experience with collection development and outreach to programs or departments.
• Evidence of active participation and collaboration in designing, promoting, and delivering innovative library services.
• An understanding of the key issues and trends in academic reference services.
• Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
• Involvement in professional service and research activities.
Environment: The University of Central Florida is the nation’s 2nd largest public university, enrolling over 59,000 students and offering 91 bachelor’s, 92 master’s, and 29 doctoral programs. The main UCF library and branches have a collection of 2.1 million volumes, subscription base of 29,000 serials, and serve as a partial depository for government documents

Salary and Rank: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with insurance and retirement benefits, 22 paid annual days, 13 sick days, 9 holidays, and no state income tax.
