About The American University in Cairo:

Job Description:

Assist faculty, researchers, and students in navigating a complex and challenging publishing environment and serve as the library resource for issues related to copyright and fair use, open access, author’s rights, and other related publishing models.
Work collaboratively with subject liaison librarians and other units to develop and implement an outreach, training program, and workshops aimed at faculty and graduate students relating to all aspects of open-access publishing and open research practices and approaches
As a key member of the library’s institutional repository & open access workgroups, work collaboratively with other library faculty to set strategic goals, objectives, and directions and engage with the community to promote and develop the repository
Play a key role in developing methods to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the repository and open-access publishing services
Provide guidance and serve as one of the resources to the university community on scholarly communications services
Develop copyright workshops, seminars, and resources for the community on copyright, open access issues
Supports faculty in tracking and evaluating scholarly research impact, enhancing discoverability and attribution with ORCID and DOI

Offer support and advice to faculty relating to their research profile and maximizing its visibility and impact
Manage and promote library bibliometric services and projects and work with faculty to establish appropriate use of bibliometrics and other tools that generate research impact measures

Gather and evaluate bibliometric data to assist leadership in strategic planning, ranking efforts, and reporting on research impact.
Serve as a liaison in assigned subject areas and programs and develop and maintain relevant subject guides
Provide specialized instruction, research consultations, and reference services to assigned departments and programs.
Participate in the overall strategic planning and assessment of the AUC Libraries
Serve on Libraries, and University committees, and working groups and collaborates with university centers, offices, and other librarians as appropriate.

Requirements:

MA degree in library and information Studies from an ALA-accredited program or a comparable graduate degree from a non-U.S. university
3 years experience: working with copyright, open access, publishing, and/or scholarly communications issues in academic or research libraries.
Demonstrates strong communication skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal.
Knowledge of trends and technologies related to academic research and scholarly communication practice.
Knowledge of libraries’ role in supporting the research life cycle
Knowledge of various (and emerging) technologies in library or academic environments.
