Society of the Four Arts seeks Library Associate (Palm Beach, FL)

The Society of the Four Arts http://www.fourarts.org/ is seeking a full-time Library Associate to work at the Children’s and King (Adult) Libraries. The chosen applicant will work as part of a team who provide a range of services and programming for children, adults, families, schools and organizations. Responsible primarily for circulation duties and programming preparation, as well as assisting with technology and automation projects, the Library Associate will work 35 hours per week, Monday through Saturday.

Functions of this job:
• Perform all opening and closing procedures
• Check materials in and out to patrons
• Assist patrons in searching/finding materials
• Library cards/library membership application processing
• Answer phones and provide detailed information and assistance
• Assist patrons with use of computers/technology
• Perform ongoing and project-based collection maintenance on all materials including shelving items, collection development, order/acquisition support
• Create and maintain displays; supply information for announcements/brochures/event publicity
• Prepare, set up, and clean-up of projects/programming
• Awareness of facility/patron safety and security issues
• Transaction of sales
• Reviews patron records/accounts and performs data entry
• Analysis and reporting, as requested
• Other library and administrative tasks as required

List any particular skills necessary to perform this job:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood or related field; Masters in Library Science/Education or equivalent work experience in library/school environments preferred
• Scheduling flexibility; work includes Saturdays (October-April) and occasional programming during evening hours (not to exceed 9 p.m.) for a 35 hour work week
Monday 10-5 p.m. (includes 1 hour break on all days except Saturdays)
Tuesday 9-5 p.m., and twice a month, 11-7 p.m.
Wednesday-Friday 10-5 p.m.
Saturday 9-1 p.m.
• Experience in fast-paced/diverse/service-oriented environments
• Excellent customer relations, verbal/written communication skills; presentation skills preferred
• Emotionally intelligent and mentally mature

• A team-based philosophy and work ethic while contributing to a positive work environment
• Basic working knowledge of MS Office applications and familiarity with the internet, electronic databases, social media, and basic computer applications
• Proficiency with sales or monetary transactions
• Physical responsibilities may include the ability to lift up to 35 lbs; stand for extended periods of time; and able to climb staircases, ladders and step stools
