Joy Koo Receives Elfreda Chatman Research Award at ASIS&T

FSU SLIS doctoral student Joung Hwa “Joy” Koo received the Elfreda Chatman Research Award at the SIG USE Symposium at the  75th ASIS&T Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 27, 2012, which includes a $1000 check to support the research.  Together with Yong Wan Cho and FSU SLIS Professor Melissa Gross, Joy’s award-winning research investigates the information seeking practices of North Korean refugees in South Korea, focusing on the relationship between the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and information needs and seeking behaviors.

Joy presented a short overview of the research project, entitled “Is Ignorance Really Bliss?”: Understanding the Role of Information-Seeking in Coping with Severe Traumatic Stress Among Refugees” to an audience of more than 60 attendees at the ASIS&T SIG USE Symposium.  Congratulations to Joy, Yong Wan Cho and Dr. Melissa Gross!
